I began running in NSTRA (www.nstra.org) trials in 2006. I participated in about four trials, in the spring of 2006, with Ginger, to see what it was like. I instantly became hooked on NSTRA trialing because of the competition and the close resemblance to actual birdhunting (not to mention the good people I have met). In the fall of 2006, I began what I consider my real NSTRA trialing career, with my two young dogs (they were both under 2 years old), Rusty and Pepper. I ran in eight trials that fall. I plan on participating in about 16 trials per year (part time trialer by most standards) for many years to come. Also, I became a NSTRA certified judge in 2007 and judged my first trials in the Spring of 2008.
